|
|
The Ambassadorial Scholarships
program is the world's largest, privately funded international scholarship
program. Since 1947, more than 30,000 scholarships have been awarded.
Approximately 80% of districts participate in the program each year by
sponsoring or hosting a scholar.
Ambassadorial
Scholarships Program objectives. The
Ambassadorial Scholarships program supports the mission of The Rotary
Foundation to further international understanding and world peace by: -
Increasing awareness of and respect for cultural differences by sending
Ambassadors of Goodwill to study in another country; -

service projects; -
Encouraging scholars to dedicate their personal and professional lives to
improving the quality of life for the people of their home community and
country; -
Developing leaders who can address the humanitarian needs of the world
community; -
Influencing all areas of the world through a balanced geographical
distribution of scholars. -

for scholars from low-income countries; and -
Fostering a life-long association between Rotary and its scholars. |
The Rotary Club of Heston & Isleworth was delighted to have the opportunity to be the contact club for a delightful Japanese Ambassadorial Scholar. Tazuko Tanaka was (and still is) in the UK to participate in a multi year Masters Degree at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. For her 2001-2 year, Tazuko worked on her MA, International Studies and Diplomacy and in the current year (2002-3), the MA programme is in International & Comparative Legal Studies. Tazuko spent one year in the USA as an undergraduate and has spent most of her career to date in the United Nations Information Centre in Tokyo. She currently plans to return to Japan after her time in London where her goal is to return to a more senior position within the UN.
